A high-speed car chase ended with a suspect in a drugs case being bitten by a police dog after he attempted to flee.
|||Cape Town - A high-speed car chase through the city streets on Sunday night ended in Parow with a suspect in a drugs case being treated for bite wounds inflicted by a police dog after he attempted to flee.
He was one of two men who were arrested for negligent driving, drug possession and possession of presumed stolen property.
Cases related to these charges had been opened for investigation, police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk confirmed today.
Officers on the scene of the arrests on Sunday night explained to the Cape Argus that the two men had sped through a red traffic light at the intersection of Vasco Boulevard and Joe Hatting at N1 City at about 8.45pm.
The suspects, driving a white Nissan Almera, had been spotted by police as they went through the light and had then been chased along the N1 towards Goodwood.
At McIntyre Road in Parow, the pair had abandoned the car and had tried to make a run for it.
However, a team from the provincial police’s K9 dog unit had also been called to help during the chase.
One of the dogs was released and chased down the suspects, who were arrested.
One of the men was treated for bite wounds by paramedics called to the scene.
The two men, aged 23 and 27, would appear in Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once they had been formally charged, Van Wyk said.
At the time of publication, police had not disclosed how many or what kind of drugs had allegedly been found in their car.
