|||Cape Town - The City of Cape Town will burn vegetation at the Zoarvlei Wetland section of Table Bay Nature Reserve, its environmental resource management department said on Wednesday.
“This burn will take place when weather conditions are favourable during March 2013, to remove accumulated dry reeds and bulrushes,” spokesman Koos Retief said in a statement.
“Burning is part of an integrated management approach to suppress reed beds.”
The area to be burnt lay between the Paarden Eiland industrial area to the west and Brooklyn to the east.
The burn would be conducted between 10am and 2pm. Residents and land owners would be informed about the exact dates.
“The removal of dry flammable material by means of a controlled burn will reduce the likelihood of future uncontrolled wildfires,” he said. - Sapa
